The 1st Datchet Sea Scout Group which was first formed in 1911 and has been in continual operation since November 1947.
The Group is part of the Windsor and Eton Scout District in the Royal County of Berkshire and as its name implies, meets in Ditton Park. We are one of the 8 Sea Scout Groups in the county and the only Sea Scout Group in Windsor and Eton. As a member of the Group you become a part of the world-wide family of Scouting.
At its peak the Group consisted of a Beaver Scout Colony (the first to be formed in Berkshire), 2 Cub Scout Packs, a Sea Scout Troop and a Venture Sea Scout Unit.
At present we have a Beaver Colony, a Cub Pack and a Sea Scout Troop catering for young people between six and fifteen years of age.
From the age of fourteen the young people are encouraged to join the District Explorer Unit. They can also become young leaders within the Group.
The Group sections carry out all the normal scouting activities as appropriate, with the Sea Scouts and fulfilling a full programme of boating activities. The Cubs have one or two opportunities each year to join the Sea Scouts in these. Apart from weekly meetings, the sections of the Group attend District and County events and in the past have been successful in various competitions.
If you know of any young people who would like to join us please contact one of the numbers below.
The Group is staffed by volunteer Leaders and Helpers and is run totally from subscriptions and fund raising events. The subscriptions, currently £80 a year for Beavers and Cubs and £120 a year for Scouts are requested in quarterly instalments by the Group Treasurer, Other arrangements can be made with the Treasurer if this is a problem. The higher subscriptions for the Scout Section is to help cover the costs of boating at the Longridge Boating Centre. Fund raising events are organised to pay for new or replacement equipment and improvements to the Headquarters. It also pays for our yearly insurance.
We hope you are able to support the Group in our work with our young members in general and your child in particular and that they and you come to value your involvement in our movement.
We ask you to fill in the application form and the Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure Form to meet the Scout Associations vetting regulations so that you can help with activities involving other people’s children including transportation. Please return them to your child’s Group Scout Leader.
